The wine she had with dinner was weighing heavily on her bladder and she desperately needed to relieve herself. Crystal really didn’t want to pee outside on a deserted road where some perverted animals might see her. Looking in her car; she tried to see if she could find something to cover her up. She opened her suitcase and began trying to see if she had brought any clothes that she didn’t mind messing up. Crystal gave up and instead began trying to call her brother again while trying to hold it in.

She waited as her phone began dialing once more. With growing impatience she listened to the phone. The phone began to ring and then continued to ring while Crystal began feeling hopeful. She hoped her brother would pick up soon before she lost service once again. The dial tone continued for one more ring and then suddenly stopped; leaving Crystal and her full bladder without help.

“Come on!” Crystal said loudly as she began to feel a compulsive urge to throw her phone onto the ground.

The last two that had failed her in a somewhat similar situation found themselves in the trash; as a pile of plastic. She was starting to think that this new phone would be joining the others very soon. She started to try and call her brother again however she wasn’t even able to get a dial tone anymore.

“I’m changing my service provider” she muttered to herself. Crystal heard a noise from behind; she turned around and instantly felt her heart jump into her throat.

About thirty feet away she could see a man looking out at one of the empty farm plots. Behind him she could see the unmistakable light from a two story house in the distance. She tensed up as she felt a slight trickle of warm liquid leave her body. She started hoping that her fear wouldn’t cause her to completely wet herself. Crystal squinted and noticed that she recognized the man. It was Victor and for some unknown reason he was calling out for someone.

“En! Come here cat!” he shouted while Crystal stood nearby and watched silently.

A small brown and white cat appeared from the brushes with a squirming field mouse in his mouth. The little bell on his bright red collar began jingling loudly for everyone to hear. Crystal began seeing things more clearly as the cat walked over to the man that had been calling for it. The moon was both full and visible; she was thankful that someone was around. Crystal began walking over to them while trying to keep from having an accident in front of him.

“I’m sorry Victor!” Crystal called out when she noticed that they were about to walk back to the house.

Victor turned around when he heard Crystal call out to him. Both of them were clearly surprised as the cat dropped the mouse and allowed him to go free. That ignored the mouse and began running off in the direction of the house. She hadn’t meant to frighten the cat away however it seemed to know where to run off too.

“Who’s there?” Victor called out while looking out towards her. She was lucky that he was able to recognize her.

“You’re the girl from the café. Your Laura and Tony‘s friend right?” Victor asked as he began to walk over to her.

Crystal tried to hide how delighted she was that the handsome young man had noticed her. It seemed that he’d shown some interest in her despite being married to an ill wife. Crystal’s happy thought was cut short as her lower stomach began aching. She was trying desperately not to completely pee on herself while she began trying to explain about her car. Victor seemed like her only hope and so she began to ask if she could use their restroom and phone to call her brother.

“I don’t mind you using the restroom but I’m afraid I don’t have a house phone. I have a cell phone but it doesn’t have service out here” Victor explained to her kindly.

Crystal decided that she would have to take what she could get. She thanked Victor for his kindness while she followed him across the grass towards the house. Victor lived in the house with his wife and his cat. She tried to make small talk with Victor while trying to hold her bladder. Unfortunately he seemed more interested in where the cat went than talking with her.

She watched as the cat ran through a small door and noticed the warm glow from the lights. She could see that the house was quite homely as she walked up the old wooden porch. The house was old but had obviously been repaired and modified in the four years that it had been lived in. Crystal would have loved to ask Victor about the modifications he made to the house but instead kept her mouth shut. She had to devote all her energy into keeping control of her body; Crystal was quickly running out of time.

Victor opened the door and told her where the downstairs bathroom was located. Without another word Crystal rushed for the bathroom so she could relieve herself. She began to thank the heavens as she sat down; that she had reached a toilet. Looking around at the inside of the bathroom Crystal began to notice how everything looked. It was all nice and new as though it had never been used.

She was surprised by the condition everything was in. The bath towels that hung from a rack were bright white without a single flaw. Crystal looked down and started to examine the floor tiles. If it hadn’t been for the dirt she’d brought in with her; they would all be completely white. Crystal started to feel bad that she had dirtied their beautiful bathroom floor.

She finished using the toilet and washed her hands. She then began trying to clean the floor; while thinking about why the bathroom would have been kept so clean. Crystal figured they probably didn’t have many visitors because of the condition his wife was in. She tried to wipe the floor however she was disturbed by the unmistakable sound of a woman that didn’t sound ill to her.

“It’s lucky En warned me and I was able to put them up; you shouldn’t have brought her inside so close to the time” the woman said in an attempt to whisper.

Crystal could tell that she was close to the door. If she hadn’t been on the floor by the door she probably wouldn’t have heard what the woman was saying. She could hear the authority in her light voice while Victor began apologizing to her. He tried explaining that Crystal would just be using the restroom and would leave. Victor seemed determine to convince the woman that everything they were doing could precede without further interruption.

Crystal’s eyes widened as thoughts began racing in her mind about what she was hearing. The pair sounded like criminals from an old 1950s movie. They were talking about preparing for something and not having to worry about any witnesses. Crystal tried to listen closer since she was unable to hear every other word. She was able to hear that someone else would be arriving later that night. It seemed they would need to have everything ready before the person arrived.

If Crystal couldn’t help but think that the pair outside the bathroom sounded like they were murderers. Her curiosity was getting the better of her but fear also began appearing strongly in her mind. She heard the cat’s meow and saw the footsteps walk over to the door she was behind. Jumping quickly to her feet she flushed the toilet right as the cat bent and looked inside from beneath the door. It was as though the animal was trying to see if she were listening to the conversation.

She washed her hands again and stepped outside where both the cat and Victor stood. Crystal quickly thanked Victor for his kindness and began walking towards the door. Before she left she felt something stir inside her head. Something was missing as the fear in her heart began growing. She had her hand on the doorknob but for some reason she couldn’t leave.

“Where’s your wife?” she asked quickly while she tried looking around the room; even though they appeared to be alone.

The other person that had been speaking while she was in the bathroom was nowhere to be seen. Crystal couldn’t help but feel nervous as she waited for the young man’s answer. She couldn’t help but feel as though an axe murderer might jump out at any second. Victor however was quick to explain that she was upstairs in bed. He continued by saying that her condition did not allow her to walk around a lot or have guests.

“Son of a bitch liar” Crystal thought to herself as the image of her honest and kind Victor was quickly washed away. Instead it was replaced by an evil
version that was holding her decapitated head. She thanked him again for his hospitality and refused his offer for a ride as she walked out the door and back into the night. The grass was short however she could still feel each blade while she walked across the lawn.

She tried to walk away as fast as she could. Crystal couldn’t stop feeling his eyes on her as she continued walking away. She started trying to decide on what she was going to tell the police when she heard the door shut. Several feet away; she turned back around and watched the two unmistakable shadows move around. She could see them through a lighted window that showed the inside of their living room.

She pulled her phone out and began dialing 911 but stopped before she finished dialing the numbers. The town was very close and as she thought about it. She knew that Victor and his wife had lived in Acresville for four years. They had earned the people’s trust while she’d been away. They all could easily have considered her an outsider now. She couldn’t just call the police only to have them not believe her. They could leave thinking that she had gone crazy in her time away.

Slowly Crystal looked down at the phone and saw that it was almost fully charged. She started to take a step back towards the house. If she was lucky she may be able to record the two confessing to whatever they had done. She might even get whatever they were planning on doing. That would be the proof she needed; that they were really criminals.

“One day back and I already need to stop a crime. What the hell kind of life do I have?” Crystal asked herself while keeping a steady eye on the door.

She started to wonder about the cat and how they’d trained it to be a guard dog. She remembered the woman had said that it had somehow given her a warning. Images of dumb women in horror movies began filling up inside her mind. Crystal remembered laughing about them when she was younger. They used to comment on how stupid they were for not leaving and staying alive when they had the chance. Then she was remembered how mangled and disfigured they had always looked in the end when the murderer had got them.

“I’m not blond so that gives me some chance of surviving” she thought to herself while she convinced herself that almost all of them had been blond and slutty.

Her nerves felt shot as her eyes kept darting between the door and window. Slowly she started setting her phone for video. The phone made a loud beep confirming the change while causing her to jump in fear. Looking at her phone and then back at the house she began cursing herself for not turning the volume off. It was luck that it hadn’t gone off when she was closer to the house. A stupid mistake like that could’ve gotten her killed.

Slowly; Crystal switched off the volume while it felt like every cell in her body began screaming for her to run away. She didn’t listen and was still moving slowly towards the living room window. Trying to be as quiet as possible; she held up her phone just as she was finally close enough to look inside. What she saw made her jaw drop down in complete horror. It took every bit of will power not to scream out. She had to place a hand over her mouth in order to keep it all in.

Laying on a couched that had a plastic liner on it was Victor completely naked except for a pair of blood stained boxers. His legs were apart and Crystal could clearly see the scars on his left thigh. It was soon covered by wavy black shoulder length hair as it leaned in and continued to drink blood from him. Crystal looked at the expression on his face while seeing blood trickle from his inner thigh and onto the liner. He was going to have fresh blood add a new stain on his underwear.

Crystal didn’t know what she was seeing and at the moment she didn’t care. Her hand began to shake violently making it hard to continue holding the cell phone that was recording everything. The image was similar to ones she’d seen in the movies but at the same time was completely different. She was actually watching someone drink the blood of a human being like it was completely normal. It was definitely not like seeing some man drink chocolate syrup on an old black and white movie projector.

She looked down while her phone fell from her grasp and landed onto the ground. It had only made a slight noise however the woman drinking Victor’s blood had heard it. She looked up instantly and turned to look out the window directly at her. Crystal took a deep breath as her heart felt like it had stopped in her chest. She felt a bit of urine appear and trickle down her leg again. The woman had been able to see her even though she was outside; Crystal was sure that they were probably going to kill her.

She watched without being able to say a word as the cat appeared outside the door. One thought came to her while she turned around to run. It was something that every teenager had seen in every horror movie. The scene in the movie, that always occurred and was unavoidable. This was that part in the movie where the stupid girl who should’ve just left was captured, killed, and never heard from again.

Chapter Two: The Volstir of Acresville

Nia looked up and wiped her face; removing all the bloodstains from her. When the cell phone hit the ground she had been able to hear it as if it had been in front of her. Turning towards Victor she knew that it had been a mistake to feed from him.

“Put your robe on and clean up” she said quickly while making her way towards the door.

She had tried to tell Victor that it had been stupid for him to allow the girl inside. It had been too close to the time she needed to feed. He hadn’t listened and now the girl had seen what they were doing. Her canine teeth shrunk and became less sharp as she started to wonder if it would be a good idea to turn him. A frown appeared on her bloodstained lips since this had not been the first time the thought had crossed her mind.

Nia was about 5’6 with hazel eyes that didn’t appear unusual in the slightest. Her shoulder length dark brown hair seemed to become wavy as it reached the back of her neck. Her skin was fair with only a slight paleness about it however it matched the same normal look that she had. Individually these qualities were quite normal but when put together it somehow made her appear quite attractive. It had never made sense to her how people were able to see beauty in her when she wasn’t able too.

She had often thought about Victor’s blue eyes along with the rest of his appearance and wondered how the two of them must look to others. People had often turned their heads when they walked down the street. She knew they were both very attractive in their own ways but it wasn‘t the same when they were together. Nia couldn’t help but admit that they both looked quite opposite standing next to each other. The thought would have made her chuckle if the circumstances had been different.

Victor tried to ask what was wrong while he got up and began following her orders. Nia was not listening and instead walked out from the living room. She walked into the small hallway that led to the front door. Someone had been walking with dirty shoes as she noticed the footprints that had been left on the elegant designs of the Persian rug. Opening the front door; she knew that she would have to go after the girl and ensure that her secret was kept safe.

Now was not the time to be worrying about the consequences of being discovered. There was too much going on to have to postpone the turning and that was something that just couldn’t be done. Victor had really created a mess by not ensuring that the girl was gone before allowing Nia to fee on him. Looking out into the night Nia was surprised to see the girl on her porch accompanied by another that she knew very well.

The girl named Crystal was obviously afraid since she tears flowing down her cheeks and her silver dress was obviously torn in a few places. She probably thought that they were going to kill her. The thought would have crossed another Volstir’s mind if they had been caught by a human. Nia turned and smiled at the woman next to Crystal; it had been a long time since they’d last seen each other.

Compared to Crystal the other woman looked quite opposite; in fact she could’ve been described as being quite amused with the situation. She was shorter than all of them reaching only about 4’10. Her skin was dark brown and she had long braided hair that went down half the length of her back. Her
eyes were the most notable thing about her; brilliant green that seemed to glow in the dark. The simple smile on her face belied many of the traits that she was known for. Nia noticed that Olivia was wearing green leather pants with a light yellow shirt that had ripples all over. She started to feel slightly embarrassed in her purple silk robe; Victor and Nia hadn’t expected to be naked when the older woman arrived.

“Olivia” Nia said out loud; she hadn’t expected her maker to appear so early.

“I didn’t see anything; nothing that looked like a vampire Manson family thing” Crystal began shouting out loud through the tears on her face.

Looking at both women while they brought her inside; Crystal was obviously terrified out of her mind. She made a high pitched noise when she looked over and saw Victor. He had managed to clean most of the blood but he was still wearing the blood stained boxers. They were all able to see them since he’d forgotten to tie his robe in his hurry to help Nia. Crystal had begun to babble in her attempt to convince them that she was harmless.

“You’re just a sick wife being taken care of by her loving husband. Not trying to sound racist; but she’s just your housekeeper who only works at night!” Crystal said loudly while she looked at all three of them in fear.

“I’m just a housekeeper that only works at night?” Olivia asked while she pushed Crystal into the living room.

Nia felt embarrassed on behalf of the girl since she had just made a big mistake. Olivia was quite respected amongst their kind and would be greatly offended by someone calling her a housemaid. Looking into her eyes it was easy to see the anger in them even if it was a small amount. Crystal had also seen that she had made a mistake but there was no taking it back.

“That’s the best idea you could come up with? No; you don’t sound like a racist hick bitch at all” Olivia said sarcastically; Crystal began crying even louder than before.

“I hope you both know you were very sloppy tonight. If I hadn’t foreseen small town spy here recording you; Victor’s birthday might’ve been ruined” Olivia said as she began removing the lining on the couch.
